Host­ed at the Jew­ish Muse­um in New York City (1109 5th Avenue), Unpack­ing the Book: Jew­ish Writ­ers in Con­ver­sa­tion brings togeth­er some of the finest writ­ers of the day for con­ver­sa­tions around con­tem­po­rary Jew­ish life and iden­ti­ty. This event is FREE with pay-what-you-want admis­sion and includes wine and refresh­ments, a book sale and sign­ing, and the oppor­tu­ni­ty to vis­it the Jew­ish Muse­um gal­leries on the day of the pro­gram; how­ev­er, space is lim­it­ed and guests must reg­is­ter in advance.

Have you writ­ten a book that you’d like to have pub­lished? Do you have a sto­ry idea? Have you already been pub­lished and would like to net­work with oth­ers in your field? The Jew­ish Writ­ers’ Con­fer­ence, spon­sored by the Jew­ish Book Coun­cil, brings togeth­er agents, edi­tors, and authors for dis­cus­sions, work­shops, and pan­els dis­cussing Jew­ish book pub­lish­ing and writ­ing. This con­fer­ence com­bines our annu­al Jew­ish Chil­dren’s Writ­ers Sem­i­nar and our Jew­ish Adult Writer’s Seminar. 

In addi­tion to pre­sen­ta­tions by pro­fes­sion­als in the pub­lish­ing field, the con­fer­ence will include an opt-in month long writ­ing group, and the chance to sub­mit first pages and query let­ters, and pri­vate con­sul­ta­tions with agents, design­ers, and pub­lish­ers, by appoint­ment only and for a fee. These oppor­tu­ni­ties are only open to those attend­ing the conference.

The Jew­ish Book Coun­cil, a not-for-prof­it orga­ni­za­tion ded­i­cat­ed to pro­mot­ing books of Jew­ish inter­est, wants to give you books. A lot of books, actu­al­ly—as in, bring sev­er­al extra bags! The JBC will open its doors and offer all of its left­over books to those quick enough to grab them. For $25 at the door — cash only— you can sift through hun­dreds of great Jew­ish books, and help your­self to an arm­load (or two) of the best Jew­ish lit­er­a­ture in town!
