A need to under­stand the Holo­caust has shaped Dan McMil­lan’s life since he first read about the tragedy at age four­teen: he became flu­ent in Ger­man, stud­ied His­to­ry at Stan­ford Uni­ver­si­ty and at the Freie Uni­ver­sität in Berlin, earned his doc­tor­ate in Ger­man his­to­ry at Colum­bia Uni­ver­si­ty, and taught his­to­ry at uni­ver­si­ties in Illi­nois, New Jer­sey, and New York. Dr. McMil­lan has spo­ken at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Chica­go, the Franklin Delano Roo­sevelt Pres­i­den­tial Library, and the Nation­al Archives in Wash­ing­ton, D.C., among oth­er venues. He lives in New York City.
