Values and Ethics — Through a Jewish Lens empowers parents to bring relevant moral values of Judaism into family discussions. Topics are indexed by themes, such as Anger, Attitude, Gratitude, Humility, Jealousy, and more. Weekly Torah readings and holidays are also indexed with three relevant approaches to each Torah portion.
What makes this book unique is that each self-contained approach is approximately 300 words, never more than one page. The first paragraph introduces a value or ethic relevant to life today. The second paragraph references the Torah portion from which it comes. The third paragraph ties it all together, leading to several open-ended questions to spark family discussions.
This book is an outgrowth of the authors’ Friday nights with their young children and, later, grandchildren, some of whom are in college today. Values and Ethics&emdash;Through a Jewish Lens is already being used successfully with parents in a growing number of synagogues, JCCs, and Jewish organizations.
