Fans of Rabbi Schachter-Shalomi won’t be disappointed by this highly readable and practical guide to finding spiritual fulfillment in a modern world. Scholar, mystic, teacher, friend to spiritual teachers from Thomas Merton to the Dalai Lama, from Ram Dass to Native American elders, Schachter-Shalomi likens each Jew to a cell in the vital Jewish organ within the body of the world. He touches on this and other beautiful metaphors while writing about time, God, ritual, mitzvah, prayer and other topics. Divided into two parts, The Torah of Today” and The Torah of Tomorrow,” the chapters explain the meaning of Jewish traditions and offer obvious and unexpected ways of fusing them to your lifestyle. Schachter-Shalomi fled Nazioccupied Vienna in 1947 and was educated by Hassidic masters. A professor emeritus at Temple University, he currently lives in Colorado and teaches at Naropa University. He was named one of the 50 most innovative Americans over 50 by Modern Maturity magazine and is considered the great sage of the Jewish renewal movement. Co-author and former editor Joel Segel lived and studied in Israel for 17 years. Gloss.
