Autism Uncensored: Pulling Back the Curtain

Autism Uncensored is the true story of the successful inclusion of an unrecovered” child with Autism in his community. Rather than another miraculous breakthrough” story, it provides an unflinching, real-time portal into the mind of a parent who adopted extraordinary methods to forcibly include her autistic son in his community regardless of public ridicule or scorn. The book redefines notions of shame, conformity and success in order to carve out a meaningful life for persons with Autism regardless of their limitations. It advocates for a duty to disclose a child’s Autism, and a corresponding duty for the general public to tolerate autistic tantrums and assist with inclusion.

It is not known whether Autism disproportionately affects the Jewish population, but legions of Jewish parents are in pain. Given the emphasis in Jewish culture on education and achievement, it’s especially painful for these parents to grapple with an incurable cognitive disorder. Jews are known for their fierce dedication to parenting, and I am no exception. My story offers realistic hope and guidance to parents, grandparents and siblings alike.
