Louis Schmi­er, a native New York­er and Pro­fes­sor of His­to­ry, Emer­i­tus, Val­dos­ta State Uni­ver­si­ty, is the recip­i­ent of many grants which allowed him to author numer­ous schol­ar­ly works deal­ing with the South­ern Jew­ish Expe­ri­ence. He is a Dan­forth Foun­da­tion Fel­low, Mar­guerite R. Jacobs Fel­low, Amer­i­can Jew­ish Com­mit­tee Fel­low, Edi­son Foun­da­tion Schol­ar, and one of the founders of the South­ern Jew­ish His­tor­i­cal Society.
