In book two in the Shimmy Ray series, Motty has a very special balloon that has been blown away by the wind. As Shimmy always wants to help people in need, he promises Motty that he will help recover the balloon. Shimmy devises a plan in which he and his friends gather the materials necessary to build a “rescue kite.” The boys work well together and, spoiler alert, the kite ends up finding the balloon in a tree. The values of teamwork, cooperation and helping others are emphasized. Illustrations are in black and white and help frame the story nicely.
Recommended for ages 5 – 9.
