During the 1930s, the Philadelphia South Philadelphia Hebrew Association (SPHA) was a dominant professional basketball team. At the time of the Great Depression, the rise of anti-Semitism, and the onset of World War II, the SPHAs took on all comers and won. Shikey Gotthoffer emerged as the team’s best player. In his ten years with the team, he won five championships and two Most Valuable Player awards. This book tells the story of Shikey, his youth playing basketball, relationship with his family, and becoming a professional basketball player.
