Elijah and the Priests of Baal is a fascinating book about the challenging experiences that Elijah the Prophet had in persuading the people of Israel to worship only Hashem. Set in the kingdom of northern Israel in Biblical times, the Jewish people frequently strayed and often worshipped Baal, a forbidden idol. Hashem instructed Elijah to demand that worship of Baal end forever. The book clearly explains the challenges that Elijah experienced in persuading people to listen to him and offers insight regarding the difficulties that all the prophets had in convincing the people to take them seriously. This illustrated retelling provides a good understanding of the events of this part of Biblical history. The language is simple and presents the tale clearly. Recommended for ages 7 – 10.
