Edward Beren­son is a pro­fes­sor of his­to­ry at New York Uni­ver­si­ty. He is the author of Europe in the Mod­ern World and The Stat­ue of Lib­er­ty: A Transat­lantic Sto­ry. He lives in Tar­ry­town, New York.
