Tamir Goodman has found success and fame as a Shabbat-observant basketball player and is a role model and mentor to young people who love sports. In this short, pithy book, he shares the lessons he has learned about life, self-respect, fair play, and staying true to oneself.
Tamir’s dyslexia was undiagnosed for much of his early schooling, but his sports ability and sportsmanship were stellar. His reputation as a talented, fair-playing, humble, Shabbat-observant sports star led him to play Division 1 basketball and earned him the nickname “the Jewish Jordan.” Throughout it all, despite many challenges, he continued to observe Shabbat. His opportunity to play professionally arose when he was drafted by Maccabi Tel Aviv, the top professional basketball team in Israel.
When injuries prevented Tamir from continuing to play professional sports, he decided to devote his life to teaching young people what he had learned. He set up basketball clinics and camps, and spent much time teaching, coaching, writing, and speaking publicly. He continues to influence a new generation to the importance of being humble, keeping their integrity, overcoming challenges, and playing their very best.
Color illustrations portray Tamir with the ever-present kippah on his head. Appended are a glossary, a list of important dates, and short descriptions of the inventions Tamir has created and developed. An icon to many, his story will make interesting reading for young people looking for inspiration.
